Семь лет назад, и сейчас Почти семь лет назад, в феврале 2012 года, отправленный одному из редакторов журнала Advances in Mathematics ответ на просьбу о рецензии положил начало моей политике бойкота запросов о рецензировании, приходящих из журналов, отвергающих работы моего авторства.

"может быть разное, но, честно говоря, я подозреваю, что никакой общей для всего журнала информации о потенциальных рецензентах нет, и что каждый редактор сам решает, кого попытаться попросить написать рецензию на присланную статью, так что я не удивлюсь, если какой-нибудь другой редактор независимо снова обратится с просьбой о рецензии, просто ничего не зная о предыдущей попытке."Не прошло и семи лет, как сегодня вечером его прогноз сбылся:

As a matter of personal policy, I am not doing any reviews for journals that would not publish my own work.
Back in September 2007, I reviewed a paper for Advances and got the following reply from you:
"Thank you for your thorough report on this submission to Advances. We appreciate the time and effort spent on the peer-review process and in maintaining a high standard for the journal."
In December 2010, I submitted my paper entitled "Artin-Tate motivic sheaves with finite coefficients over a smooth variety" to Advances in Mathematics.
In September 2011, my paper was rejected by your journal. A one-page referee's report attached to the rejection letter stated that my paper was "clear and original" but "not yet ready for publication in Advances in Mathematics".
Your journal was the first one to reject that paper of mine. Three years later and after two more rejections, the paper was finally accepted by another journal.
In February 2012, I received a request to referee for Advances in Mathematics signed by Prof. Tony Pantev of your editorial board. As my reply to Prof. Pantev stipulated:
"Whatever my mathematical expertise may or may not be, such a phenomenon as the high standards of Advances in Mathematics is certainly above my limited capacity of understanding matters. <...> I have no idea what being a paper "appropriate for publication in Advances in Mathematics" might consist in."
I cannot help you maintain the high standards of which my own research output falls short. By your own admission expressed in your rejection letter, I am not competent to judge the quality of mathematical papers on your journal's high level.
Therefore, I believe that it would be irresponsible for me to participate in the reviewing process in Advances in Mathematics. I have refrained from any such participation after September 2011, and so I will continue.
