Leave alone those who do not want it From my point of view, it is important to leave alone those who don't want it. Any government's laws mandating compulsory teaching of any amounts of mathematics to any people, of any professions, at any age, are tyrannical and should be abolished.
As to becoming and being a mathematician, this is for those who want it. Those who want it are supposed to know what they are getting into. Mathematics is not fun. It is called "gnawing the granite of science", and it is called so for a reason. It is not supposed to be either pleasant or easy.
It is supposed to be well-done, though. Mathematical monographs, papers, and presentations are supposed to be hard to comprehend because the material is inherently hard, and not because the author did not care to present it properly. |
