Re: [quick opinion for Crelle] Dear Prof. <...>
As a matter of personal policy, I do not do any reviews for journals which would not publish my own work.
Back in August 2010, I submitted my paper titled "Galois cohomology of a number field is Koszul" to Crelle's journal. In February 2012, I received a rejection letter with a referee's report attached to it.
Among several critical comments, the referee saw fit to mention that, when in a lemma in my paper I discuss a vector space with subspaces, and write that two particular vector subspaces do not intersect, I, in fact, mean something else:
"Also, when you write ... does not intersect L, you surely mean, only intersect at 0."
More than ten years have passed, but I still remember this detail. All I can say now is that, with any refereeing requests you may have presently or in the future, you may want to contact mathematicians capable of making a more careful distinction between nonintersecting vector subspaces and vector subspaces that only intersect at 0.
