How a widely used ranking system ended up with three fake journals in its top 10 philosophy list

    Профессор Николай Фосс цитирует:

"How was it possible to get into the Scopus top 10 in philosophy? The trick is simple: The Addleton journals extensively cross-cite each other. For example, of 541 citations to Linguistic and Philosophical Investigations used to calculate the 2023 CiteScore, 208 come from journals published by Addleton. Additional citations come mostly from Frontiers and MDPI journals.

These journals are filled with automatically generated papers, all using the same template, extensively using buzzwords such as “blockchain,” “metaverse,” “deep learning,” “immersive visualization,” “neuro-engineering technologies,” and “internet of things.” Most papers claim to examine the recently published literature on these topics by “a quantitative literature review of the main databases.” They also claim to analyze initially (always!) between 170 and 180 articles that satisfied the undisclosed “eligibility criteria.”"

Twelve years ago: My experiment with submitting papers to prestigeous journals is over

"Received the answer from Publications Mathematiques de l'IHES. My paper about matrix factorizations and singularity categories is rejected as very strong, but containing too much of a sophisticated machinery. My experiment with submitting papers to prestigeous journals is over. No further attempts will be undertaken." -- https://www.facebook.com/posic/posts/pfbid02mw211dtzTGLQDmNScvTYoLfMcFy9FxLa8fL7fiSkb4wMoGdcf5ntsAX8Xtyqp1Pil

Well, as usual. Big things take time, big change takes time. Not all my decisions could be implemented immediately after I had arrived at them. For many years after those blog entries, I still occasionally, rarely but sometimes, submitted some of my papers to rather prestigious journals. Perhaps sometimes, very-very rarely, some exceptions may be still made in the future. But the turn of the direction was decided upon twelve years ago, and it is gradually being implemented. The main thing is not where I actually submit. The main thing is what my research aims at, what my papers are being designed for. They are not written with the intent to satisfy the preferences of prestigious editorial boards.
