Мантенья- художник,некоторые работы которого на века опережают свое время, особенно мадонны.

Он был одним из первых, кто использовал приемы trompe l'oeil в своих работах, фигуры у него как бы выходят из двухмерного пространства.
Здесь также его графика и рисунки,в том числе малоизвестные.





Andrea Mantegna 1431 – 1506
The Adoration of the Magi

Мантенья родился около 1431 г. в итальянском местечке Изола-ди-Картура близ Венеции, в семье дровосека. В 1441 г. был усыновлен художником Франческо Скварчоне. Учился изобразительному искусству, а также латыни у Скварчоне, в 1445 г. был записан в цех живописцев Падуи.

В возрасте 17 лет Мантенья в суде добился независимости от Скварчоне и с тех пор работал как самостоятельный художник.
В 1453 г. Мантенья женился на дочери Джакопо Беллини. В 1460 г. он становится придворным художником у герцогов Гонзага.

Один из крупнейших гуманистов Италии, Мантенья был знатоком и собирателем произведений античной культуры. Благодаря в том числе и глубокому пониманию античности,он стал радикальным новатором живописи.
