Lyme update - 2
Well, the first attempt to pass the message to the doctor was unsuccessful.

Her assistant called back and said that Dr. [R] confirmed that Tanya absolutely has to take 3 week course of antibiotic.
I was rather puzzled. And responded that I already knew this, someone from the office called me and told me about her test results and continuation of treatment.
- That was me. You questioned the treatment and asked for another blood test, didn't you?
- Yes, I asked for another blood test, to test for other deer tick-transmitted diseases that may come with Lyme. The chance is pretty high, 10%. I want to be sure she is properly treated in case she got it.
- Do you understand she needs to take antibiotic for 3 weeks? I thought you questioned that.
- No! I wanted her to be tested for parasites that are transmitted by the same tick! babeosis! The incubation period is up to 6 weeks. The treatment may take longer, it could be different drug in addition to the one she takes for Lyme. I got this info from Government website!
- OK, I guess it's better Dr. [R] gives you a call herself when she has a moment.

I wanted an easy ride but I'm not getting it.

Well, in my case they are not slow, they just don't know much about these tick-transmitted diseases. Given that I got most of my info from official government sites, it's something I can't comprehend. These diseases are common and Materials and Information for Health Care Providers (http://www.mass.gov/dph/cdc/epii/lyme/lymehp.htm#materials) are up there on Mass. Gov. site. They just don't seem to use it.

I looked up the statistics. Massachusets is high risk area for Lyme on US map. The number of cases is on the rise, it has also spread from Cape Cod & the islands + Western Mass. to everywhere else. This means Health Care providers get more and more patients every season. I suspect this summer is especially bad. We've never caught that many ticks before - not talking about actually contracting the disease. Shouldn't it prompt the doctors to refresh their knowledge?
