Americans about traveling to Belarus 1. Understand that even the most simple, mundane everyday things we take for granted are very often "complicated" and almost darn near impossible in most of Belarus. It's as much of a mindset as anything else - you will understand what this means after you have been there a day or so.
2. Bring your own toilet paper
3. The people are generally well educated, resourceful and in spite of all he rhetoric and the nature of the current regime - they welcome Americans with enthusiasm - their hospitality is unrivaled. They will give freely from what little they have. They look forward to better days but by nature they have a fatalistic, almost hopeless view on most things.
4. Nothing works like it is supposed to ( see #1 above)
