Manhattan in the 60s to the 80s streets from Riverside to Third Ave has some of the best residential high-rise density anywhere. Interesting that most of it was built without zoning or during the much looser 1916 zoning resolution. The tall Art Deco building is The Carlyle Hotel (1928).
