Terrorist Screening System Outage Slows Down Customs Lines at US Airports

The Department of Homeland Security system that checks airline passengers against terrorist watch lists was reportedly experiencing a service disruption Wednesday evening leading to long customs lines at many US airports.

Passengers began complaining about outages at major airports around the US starting around 8 pm Eastern time.

According to NBC New York, DHS officials confirmed that a computer system “glitch” was behind the backups at JFK airport.

US Customs and Border Protection told NBC News that the outage lasted roughly 90 minutes, and the system was back up just after 9 pm.

The airports seemingly affected, according to VentureBeat, included New York’s JFK, Boston’s Logan International Airport, San Francisco International Airport, Baltimore-Washington International Airport, Atlanta’s Hartsfield Jackson Airport, Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, and Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
