I spent the last few weeks building a custom style for San Francisco. What do you think?

I’ve been experimenting with map design tools recently, focusing on visualizing complex urban network density. I developed a new style and wanted to share my first render: San Francisco.

My goal was extreme minimalism. I wanted to reduce the complexity of the city to its barest architectural skeleton, making it look almost like digital circuitry or schematic.

  • High Contrast: 100% black background with pure white linework. All non-transportation layers (buildings, water polygons, terrain, and labels) were completely removed.
  • Density Focus: By using only one line weight, I tried to let the density of the road network do all the visual work. You can really feel the complex interplay between the orthogonal grids, the diagonal avenues, and the major interstates.

I am really happy with how the complex intersections near the Bay and the grids on the peninsula stand out. What city do you think I should apply this style to next? Feedback is welcome!
