Immigrants deported to Panama prison

The US deported immigrants from various countries to Panama, which is holding them in an inaccessible prison. Their lawyers cannot contact them.

Even worse, the US did nothing to find out whether they are entitled to asylum. Some come from countries that regularly persecute people, including Afghanistan, China, India, Iran, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Uzbekistan and Vietnam. It is forbidden to to deport anyone to those countries.

Imagine if you are a woman from Afghanistan or Iran, you escape and ask for asylum in the US, and you are sent to a prison in a jungle and cannot talk with anyone there.

Australia has used similar tricks to eliminate in practice the right to asylum, such as sending people to countries such as Nauru that don't allow journalists to enter.
