A more healthy childhood can of course be achieved even today if you live away from the cities, in more rural environments. You can even home-school (or un-school) your children if you like.

We can not afford this though, most of us. We are slaves of the system, entangled in the giant spider’s web. We can not get free. We can not survive on our own anymore.

Or can we?

Or is this just what they want us to believe, so that we don’t even try to?

Do you really need all the things you buy today? Do you really need all the services you buy today? Do you really need the living standard that you have today?

I don’t think so.

We – and our bodies – can get accustomed to a lot of things, and much more than we are aware of. We just have to accustom our minds first, and then the rest will follow. There are limits to what we can get accustomed to, of course, but still.

Some of the things we are accustomed to today are not only making us lazy and weak, they are actually making us feeble-minded and unhappy.

I spend much time in front of my PC, and in a sense I am a slave to it. I struggle to get free. I know just how much better my life would have been if I was free from this device, if I had spent all this time working in the garden, playing with the kids, learning things, thinking, running, building things, maintaining things… In a sense the world around me is falling apart partly because I am not there to take care of it as much as I should have.

If I am a slave to this modern world and what is in it and cannot get free, for whatever reason, a weak economy or a weak will, a change in and even a downfall of civilisation might do me good. HailaR WôðanaR!
