EU military intelligence chief rules out Russia’s involvement in eastern Ukraine events

Commodore Georgij Alafuzoff, in charge of EU military intelligence, is feeling skeptical about Russian army's involvement in Ukraine’s recent developments, as reported by Finnish Yle broadcaster. As he points out, the protests in Ukraine are mostly centered around local Russian speaking public, deeply disappointed with the situation in the country.

Mr. Alafuzoff added no military operations had taken place in the area so far, but they would be there in case of any side’s attack.
On April 14, Ukraine’s security service made public a recording of some military officers reporting on the success of Slavyansk and Kramatorsk operations, as the towns resisted attacks by Ukraine’s security forces. Kiev suggests the radio transmission was meant to reach Russian intelligence agencies, but was intercepted along the way. It also tells a story of a number of Ukraine’s security service agents having got ambushed the day before.
Russia in response turned down the accusations, stressing it doesn’t get involved in what is on in Ukraine. "We are not interfering in Ukraine’s domestic affairs, as this will contradict out interests. There are no Russian security service agents there. If there are facts,then get them on the table. If you feel embarrassed about it, you have none of them," Sergei Lavrov, Russia’s Foreign Minister, noted on April 14.
