sound abberrations [Sep. 19th, 2003|10:50 pm]
Listening in the car to another book on tape, this time it's a biography of Mao.
The interesting twist to this situation is that it's being read by the same actor, who "read to me" The Name of the Rose. So his voice creates in my head a weird merge of the two texts . Somehow I associate Jorje with Mao, and expect other characters to show up in the story as well.
Now, let's say I'm Pushkin and Arina Rodionovna reads to me all those Russian folktales that blend together, thus becoming a breeding ground for my imagination. Then I add french poetry on top of that and get a really remarkable mix of cultural and linguistic perceptions.

Conclusion: read to kids a series of books, each one a in different language. What about music?

I wonder if other people have the same reaction. There's definitely the phenomenon of "recognizing" a movie actor in a completely different setting.
