I wonder what language we are going to use when a direct brain-to-brain, most likely via a computer, high level interface is developed. I wonder what would it take to communicate images and internal "movies". Neil Stephensen described some magic mechanism for that in Diamond Age, but I think it's way off.
On a somewhat related note, a couple of days ago when I watched the old Russian movie "Solaris", it occurred to me that the brain-planet in the context of that time can be interpreted as a psychoanalyst of a Freudian type. It/he forces people to re-experience their repressed memories and etc. The success of the protagonist, a professional psychologist, is possible because of his openness to memory exploration by another being. He, presumably, is aware of the Freud's model, and doesn't resist deep probing, even when the brain-planet creates and shares with him barely adequate representations of its understanding of his psyche. |
