On 9 June 2014, the Moscow City Court pronounced the verdict on the homicide of Anna Politkovskaja, journalist for the Novaja Gazeta famous for her investigations into the war crimes and human rights violations in Chechnya. The brain behind the murder, Lom-Ali Gajtukajev, and the material executer, Rustam Makhmudov, were sentenced to life long imprisonment.
Former police officer Sergej Khadžikurbanov, who helped Gajtukajev in planning the assassination of the journalist, will pass 20 years in prison. Makhmudov's brothers - Džabrail e Ibrahim - were respectively sentenced to 12 and 14 years as accomplices to the crime. The defence has not accepted the verdict and is preparing the appeal to Strasbourg.....
