1099 - 15,000 hungry Christian soldiers march barefoot around the city of Jerusalem during the First Crusade.
1520 - Battle of Otumba. Hernan Cortez with 200 Spaniards and 5,000 Indians defeated larger Aztec force and continued his retreat to Tlaxcala.
1709 - Battle of Poltava. Russians defeat Swedes marking the end of Swedish military prowess.
1758 - Ill-considered frontal attack on Fort Ticonderoga by British during the French and Indian War.
1824 - Battle of Kamarut. Small British force stormed a series of stockades held by Burmese.
1942 - U.S.S. Lexington sunk by Japanese carrier aircraft during the Battle of the Coral Sea.
