I rewatched Matrix - 1 with my eight-year-old son.
It is was very interesting - my attitudes shifted a lot over the past twenty-something years, so the ideas I caught were sort of fresh.
First, it became clear that the red pill was not necessarily a door to a rabbit hole leading to a hidden reality. Matrix could be and should be reversed - the world of undercover heroes was a pure computer game. The red pill could be a drug opening a door to sheer madness. Morpheus (an agent of a very disturbed sleep) could be a drug dealer leading a bunch of sociopathic youths on a profoundly fake quest for non-existent social justice, with catastrophic results.
If I was remaking it, I would add the transgender theme - Neo becomes Trinity and vice versa, affirming gender dysphoria as the transgender ideology of the Matrix. Some stronger BDSM theme would be a nice touch too, all these latex suits with bouncy bottoms should be followed by more elaborate sexual tortures by hired professionals (Agents).
A real choice is not between red and blue pills. The truly delicate choice is to reject both pills and find your own way in life, no matter how fucked up it looks according to the popular, including so-called countercultural narratives.
