Paid time off. Starting in January 2010, XXX will replace its current vacation, sick leave and floating holiday policies with a new program, called Paid Time Off (PTO).
XXX is moving to a PTO program for two reasons:
1. Be more competitive. PTO is more flexible to support our diverse workplace and employees’ individual needs.
2. Improve efficiency. One time off program is simpler to manage than three separate programs.
Given our current business situation, we recognize it may be hard to see the value in a new time off program in light of the company’s recent shutdowns. However, we strongly believe this program will add value. For most of you, PTO will accrue more quickly than our current vacation benefit, which I believe will assist all employees to recover from the hardship of shutdown.
Some employees have asked why we are not transitioning accumulated sick time into your PTO bank and the short answer is, simply, that we cannot afford to do so.
