Millennials in the workplace
A plausible explanation for the cultural clash between the millennials and the rest of the society.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=As8XkJNaHbs

In brief,

- failed parenting strategies: millennials heard only positive messages from their parents and at school ("you are special", "you can't do anything wrong", "you can have anything in life if you only wish for it")
- social media (the "like" counters from pseudo-"friends") produces a dopamine addiction in its users, replacing the need of forming actual relationships between people
- instant gratification powered by modern technology - everything is instantly bought online and delivered, makes young people unable to wait patiently for anything or to work slowly towards a goal. ("I'm quitting this job after 8 months because I don't see how I am making an impact")
- business / corporate work environment is focused on short-term results rather than on long-term personal development, providing an additional mismatch for millennial employees.

In the real world, they discover that they are not special, that they cannot get anything they want just because they want it - neither instantly nor otherwise, - that actual results matter and not just "participation", and that online pseudo-friends do not actually provide the quality of human relationships necessary for us to have meaningful and fulfilling lives.

Unfortunately, the author (Simon Sinek) is a bit short on remedies. One remedy he proposes is to drastically cut down on social media use at work and at home. No cell phone use during meetings wt work, no texting in the bedroom at home.
