On planning for growth
Scott D. Clary writes in Facebook -- https://www.facebook.com/scottdclarypage/posts/pfbid0gCpyYLdQQDSBqDWt2Bu9PSCAuPKiDn2e5DFePF2kXDzBqgoGhv52HYrNNtxyNHfZl :

Your "5-year plan" assumes you'll be the same person in 5 years.

You wouldn't be.

Plan for growth, not permanence.

***

No, of course I wouldn't be the same person in 5 years. I am 52 today, in 5 years I would be 57. That's a lot of a difference. I am not the same person today as I was 5 years ago, either.

Relative nonhomogeneous Koszul duality, semi-infinite algebraic geometry, exact DG-categories, foundations of topological algebra, limits of accessible categories, periodicity theorems in homological algebra, contramodules, co/contraderived categories, and contraherent cosheaves are not in the same shape today as they were 5 years ago. That's the point.

In 5 years, if still alive, I will be 5 years closer to the grave. But contraherent cosheaves will be not in the same shape in 5 years as they are now. That's the plan.

For good or for bad, I have no plans for personal growth. I have plans for the growth of the body of ideas I am working on.
