many emigrants from the former USSR have extreme right wing views. Many of my good old friends are racist and libertarian on economic issues. This does not mean I have to be racist or libertarian.

There was time when I was a typical right wing emigrant from USSR. In the early 90s I was fascinated with the "political incorrectness" of Rush Limbaugh and my views on economic policies were in line with the contemporary libertarian movement.

It took a lot of time and self-education before I saw the light. Now I have a problem, it is hard to be friendly to those "good people" I know. It is so hard to find excuses for stupidity. One of my new "old money" friends coined it this way -- "people that wish they were Stalin, voted for Stalin(at party congresses), and, in this country, people who dream to be Bill Gates vote as if they are already rich like Bill Gates[who is not exactly a right winger himself (http://www.campaignmoney.com/biography/bill_gates.asp)]". Somehow theit logic is very flawed ... .
