The third Bard High School Early College
Bard High School Early College opens in Newark.
The third Bard High School Early College (BHSEC) opened in Newark, NJ in September. Newark Mayor Cory Booker joined Bard President Leon Botstein and BHSEC Newark principal Ray Peterson for a ribbon cutting ceremony to usher in the new academic year. Upon graduation BHSEC students will have a high school diploma as well as a tuition-free Associate in Arts degree from Bard. The occasion was featured in several regional papers, the Huffington Post, and as The New York Times.

Accepted BHSEC students can look forward to completing most of the high school program and the required New York State Regents Exams in the first two years. Qualified ninth and tenth grade students are eligible for entry into the early college program. At the end of four years, students will have completed 60 college credits and received the Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree in the liberal arts and sciences from Bard College as well as a New York State Regents diploma.
