Frank Rich writes in NYT:...another $50 billion rip-off. This time the vanished loot belonged to American taxpayers. That was our collective contribution to the $117 billion spent (as of mid-2008) on Iraq reconstruction — a sinkhole of corruption, cronyism, incompetence and outright theft that epitomized Bush management at home and abroad.
In 2001 we were scared into giving a blank check to the government for its war on terror. In 2008-09 we are being scared into giving a blank check to the government for the war on depression.
To tell you the truth, I am really afraid that the results of both these wars will be largely the same: government waste and corruption. |
