It looks like the vast majority of interactive LJ discussions turn into a variation of "Who's right" game. Barriers to understanding are becoming higher because [maybe] a) there's no eye-to-eye contact; b) intonation/body language not clear; c) discussions are conducted in public - fear to lose face(?); d) no common goal to find a solution, just to vent, discharge one's own mind, confirm one's own biases. There's a marked difference in tone in exchanges between strangers and people who apparently know each other, even barely, from the "real" life.
at the moment the "get to know" function of a virtual environment would be a lot more important than the "communication" one. |

the community of individualists... let's try to play renku instead of discussion who's right and who's a frick :)
I would love to play renku, but it takes too much of my time and all of my creative energy. Nevertheless, I reserve my right to play it whenever appropriate :-) | |
