Presidential debates [Sep. 29th, 2004|12:43 pm]

here's my $0.02.
tomorrow's presidential debates are not going to change anything. mostly because the country wants to believe that everything is going to be ok: iraq, economy, budget deficit, you name it. just don't rock the boat, just keep pretending that the king is not naked. no, of course not. he wears the shiny armor of freedom and democracy. he rides the white horse of world's richest economy. he builds the impregnable fortress of "the war on terror". long live the king!

in any case i'm more concerned about congressional races. because if we get GOP control over the white house and the capitol, the deficit is not going to come down. combined with $50/barrel oil prices this is a recipie for inflation. but greenspan is not going to let it happen, so he'll raise the rates, which means the economy will at best stay in dolldrums for another couple of years. the dollar might get stronger, but it wouldn't help the exports.
but if greenspan lets the inflation off the hook, we get diminishing consumer spending ability, which is no good either. in any case, the low rate refinancing engine that keptreal money in people's pockets is dead. long live the king!

in the meantime, my talk on innovation strategy development went really well yesterday, so i'm going to spin it at least a couple more times.
