The idea (that a US-based mass-circulation newspaper would not suffer any consequences for a "Kill a NATO soldier!" headline) is completely absurd. All references to the sarcastic/allegorical/contextual meaning would be very unlikely to soften the blow in this particular case.

On a smaller scale, I suggest that you try posting the sentence in question on the door of your office/cubicle or (if self-employed) on the back bumper of your vehicle. Something tells me that you are unlikely to engage in this risky experiment even if the statement in question accurately reflects your political beliefs. If so, I would urge to honestly analyze the reasons that prevent you from following through on this.
