i think you are on to something here...
in fact, it is an expressed purpose of any institute of (higher) learning - to teach the people how to process the information vs. the information itself.

it is a well known that orthodox jews can easily excel in a regular academia environment. i believe that the opposite is equally true - i.e. academically trained people can easily excel in a jewish religion (if they so choose).

it is clear that by using parentheses you realize the difficulty in defining those terms as well as the likelihood of their interchangeability in use.

I don't believe it. Prove it.

hmm...i need to consider the challenge...
1)provide your definition of 'orthodox jews'
2)provide your definition of a suitable 'regular academia environment'
3)provide your definition of 'excel'
4)provide your definition of 'it is well known'

it is possible that with your definitions of the above i can't prove it (that btw also requires a careful definition) and will concede.

i mean, if it is unlikely for us to reach consensus from the start - it will be a very long a tenuous way down to argue the points unless we are clear on the terminology. of course, nailing down the terminology is usually a more challenging problem then the issue itself...

hmm...then again, perhaps your challenge has something to do with the way they teach at those yeshivas...i hear (major hearsay and the movie yentl) that they train people to argue the points by constantly challenging all the statements they make. :)
