My take on it was that US does things around the world regardless of UN since it owns the UN. And why in the world do united states keep this costly pet is at times a mistery to me. Though, US needs at least a visibility of "opposition" - how would it look if it sabotaged the organization that used to and now pretends to influence world politics? I think US are kinda stuck now and has to pay for own opposition (as it usually works anyway).

i inderstand the reasoning, but it makes me sick.
like i said- US go away from UN and starts another organization if needed.
this pet is costly and it bites. why would anybody want such a pet? Opposition is just a word. UN suppose to solve some common issues and obviously it does nothing special. and when discussion arrises - again it shows that the issues are not that common for everybody.
just whole bunch of guys, some galls, i believe, get together in peaceful place and chat about some subjects they have no idea about.
i clearly understand china - why should chinese representative vote pro israel, pro jews, if he does not get why arabs, who suppose to be jews' brothers, have conflict. if it a conflict between brothers, like taiwan and mainland china, and we, china are clearly outsiders, why we, chine, chould vote pro israel? why not pro arab? why one time pro israel, and another time pro arab?
the same with Pakistan.
anyway, you did not convince me that US need UN.
i think the same about canada.

yeah...well, US don't need UN, but it seems, that if they withdraw today there's going to be too much shit to deal with from all sides. US are not well liked in the world as it is, can you imagine the rep they'll get after UN crumbles. Anyway, it's probably not the reason, the reason is always money. I haven't figured out yet what money interest does US have in keeping UN alive, but there must be one :)
