Since this figure naturally includes more men than women, I might actually have to adjust my old estimate (I did this work years ago) from 10% to 15% or even 20% of men being incels.

What this does for a society is that it makes it more hostile and competitive. Hostile, because all unmarried men have historically been rivals of one another for the attention of women, and this creates natural tensions (which you can see on full display during an average night out). And competitive, because women's attention is increasingly reserved for the most succesful men, and so being ruthless in business and life is rewarded (you want to be Mr. Grey, not Mr. Grey's gardener). So in that sense, I think the 1980s-2010s, with their corporate dominance in life and politics and culture of excessive materialism, have been the natural consequence of the invention of the contraceptive pill.
