>что конкретно стало причной отставки консервативного премьер-министра. In October, 1923, Baldwin had drastically altered the shape of his politics by reviving the doctrine of protection--by implementing a protective tariff. The last time Britain had deployed protectionism was in 1903. It didn't take long back then for protectionism to become unpopular among the nation. In parliamentary elections in 1923, the Conservatives dropped from 346 to 258 seats. The Labour and Liberal Parties gave Stanley Baldwin a vote of no-confidence, whereupon he resigned. Stanley Baldwin returned as Prime Minister later in 1924 after the Conservatives had reamassed themselves and remained in Office until 1929. He served again from 1935 till 1937. https://www.webcitation.org/5hF6xthJT?url=http://historyannex.com/20th-century-Europe/famous-people-1920s/Stanley-Baldwin.html

Не совсем понял. Protective tariff - причина? То есть ограничения на ввоз иностранных товаров стали причиной отставки консервативного премьера?

Ага. 22 May 1923 Conservative Stanley Baldwin becomes prime minister Conservative Stanley Baldwin became prime minister, with Neville Chamberlain as chancellor of the exchequer, after Andrew Bonar Law resigned due to ill health. Baldwin proposed to abandon free trade, hoping that tariff reform would help to beat unemployment - an unpopular measure. Following the elections of December 1923, the reunited Liberals joined Labour to extinguish tariff reform by a vote of no confidence. Baldwin resigned. http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/british/timeline/worldwars_timeline_noflash.shtml
