Germany suddenly raises white flag for Taiwan
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Germany suddenly and unceremoniously replaced Taiwan's flag with a blank, white banner under its listing for the country on the foreign ministry website —prompting one reporter to ask if it was a white flag of surrender to China.

The Federal Foreign Office website recently deleted the flag of Taiwan and replaced it with a plain, white rectangle. During a press conference on Friday (July 10) the foreign ministry representative claimed the change was in keeping with Germany's "one China policy."

He did not claim there was any change, in fact he said "ich glaube aber schon jetzt ausschließen zu können, dass es sich da um eine aktuelle Änderung handelt".

There was no change in policy, and the white rectangle was always there, too. Whether it is good or bad is another question.

You're absolutely right, I just didn't
understand what you meant, sorry.

Indeed, it was shortly afterwards confirmed by Breul:

Wir haben das für Sie noch einmal nachgeprüft: Die Flagge Taiwans wird seit dem Relaunch der Homepage des Auswärtigen Amtes im November 2017 nicht auf unseren Seiten angezeigt. Das ist das, was man mit ein paar Klicks nachvollziehen kann.

Wir haben ein bisschen weiter in dem „data dump“ der vorherigen Seite nachgeschaut. Auch dort haben wir bis jetzt keine Version finden können, wo es je anders gehandhabt worden wäre. Das also zu Ihrer Frage, ob das eine Änderung war.
