а это точно несовместимые вещи ?

в смысле, при Таксине законов об оскорблении императорской бабки, кошки, внучки, жучки ещё не было (или он их пытается отменить) ?

путлер вот совмещает наотлично, ровно по тем же телеканалам, где утром обещают в радиоактивный пепел, вечером идут по одним - слизанные один-в-один шоу и ситкомы, по другим - просто западные, потому что пипл родное хавает неохотно, а неродное (вместе с радиоактивным пеплом) - охотно (а доходы канала с рекламы)

но после переворота 2006-го года
ему запрещено в таиланде появляться вообще, а выборы
(на которых он, конечно, победят его дружки-богатеи
и Таксина обратно приволокут) в Таиланде после 2014 года,
похоже, навечно отменили

Next door in Thailand, this activism takes a quite different form. Buddhist groups there tried in vain earlier this year to have Buddhism declared the country’s official religion in its new post-coup constitution.

In April, they converged on parliament in Bangkok — some riding into the city on elephants — to highlight their demand.

Even though 95 percent of Thais are Buddhists, the drafting assembly rejected the idea.

In an unusual step, Queen Sirikit said in a speech marking her 75th birthday in August that religion should be separate from politics. Given the deep respect Thais have for their monarchy, that put an end to the campaign.

The drive to give Buddhism official status has come back in another guise. As the Bangkok Post reports, 179 members of the 250-seat National Legislative Assembly have backed a bill to make offences to Buddhism a crime punishable by stiff penalties. The report said:

The bill sets a jail term of 10-25 years and/or a fine of 500,000-1,000,000 baht for insulting, offending, imitating and distorting Buddhism and the Lord Buddha and a jail term of 5-10 years and/or a fine of 100,000-500,000 baht for damaging Buddhist objects, personnel and places.

People who have any form of sexual affair with monks, novices and nuns are liable to five to 10 years in jail and/or a fine of 100,000-500,000 baht.

However, the bill does not include any punishments for monks, novices and nuns who engage in sexual relations.

"We want them to be careful about the performance of celebrities, singers, and actors, so that they will not hurt the feelings of Thai Buddhists," Somchai told Prachachat. "If they perform in Thailand in such manner, they may face criminal charges for their blasphemous action against Buddhism."

Under Section 206 of Thailand’s Criminal Code, any act of "blasphemy" against the "the religion of any people" is punishable by up to seven years in prison.

Somchai's remark came shortly after the singer of Wat Wayhem Orchestra, Yamauchi Takaya, apologised for his wardrobe choice on Twitter.

"I did not have any intention to insult Buddhism," Takaya wrote in Thai on his Twitter account on 13 November. "I admit that I don't know Thai customs so well. I ask all Thai people to forgive me."

The appropriation of Buddhist objects and decorations are a frequent source of controversy among Thai Buddhists.

In July 2013, a group of Buddhist activists protested in front of the German Embassy in Bangkok to voice their opposition to an art installation in Munich, Germany that involved laying a large Buddhist statue on the ground.

The effort to stop foreigners’ "blasphemous" treatment of Buddhist statues is coordinated through a group called “Knowing Buddha.” The group has sponsored several large billboards over Bangkok's main thoroughfares advising foreign visitors to be respectful of the religion.

According to an announcement on the group’s Facebook page, titled “Do and Don’t on Buddha,” the group recently succeeded in pressuring Thai authorities to halt all sales of Buddhist art and furniture pieces at Bangkok’s Chatuchak Weekend Market.
