Alexander Mikov Недавно в одном небольшом частном
калифорнийском университете уволили профессора (или он сам
уволился под давлением общественности, этот момент могу
уточнить) после того, как стало известно, что он имеет
особенность закрываться в собственном кабинете на ключ
(где работает только он один) и переодеваться, меняя одну
одежду на другую. Я подозреваю что поскольку в Калифорнии
жарко, имеет смысл менять одежду раз в день, чтобы
чувствовать себя комфортнее и свежее. Так вот. Его уволили
потому, что одна студентка узнала, что он там
переодевается. Просто узнала о самом факте, а не
увидела. И сам факт этого знания так её оскорбил, что она
написала заявление на этого профа куда_надо, и его
выдавили. И такие истории там если не норма, то уже почти
обыденность. Ничего не пропагандирую, просто обозначаю
вектор, в направлении которого мы начинаем двигаться.

Olga Lebed Alexander Mikov а есть какие-то источники где
про этот кейс прочитать можно? Дело-то очень громким
выглядит. А то люди очень любят байки про страшный запад и
их страшную борьбу с харассментом.

может быть не в паблике, то хотя бы в ЛС, то вот Вам
источник. Я не знаю писали ли об этом на сайте La Verne
University. Думаю что не стали.

писали. Если публике интересно, то расскажу все. Чувака
(назовём его Васей) переманили 3 года назад из престижного
заморского университета. Интересный учёный, авторитетный,
полевой биолог. Всю жизнь в джунглях. Я с ним ездила в
одну экспедицию. Он на вкус слоновье дерьмо пробовал,
пиявок кусал в ответ, делал селфи с коброй, и все такое
прочее. Но зато с ним в джунглях безопасно и интересно. Он
знает чего бояться надо. Зато в городе он продолжает вести
себя так же прямо. И успел на мозоли наступить нескольким
активисткам. Шутки у него грубы. Меня они не задевали, так
как команду "Вася, иди на хуй" он усвоил быстро. Но
активистки решили подкинуть ему подлянку и подговорили
студенток написать несколько жалоб. И про переодевания, и
про грубые шутки, про сексизм, и всякое другое. Я к декану
ходила, покричала на него. Разревелась даже во время
разговора, нечаянно. Может, и спасла бы, но случился
коронавирус, и нас послал по домам. Переолевался он,
кстати, из-за полевых работ, он в горы студентов водит. Ну
и чтобы в качалку ходить.

Complaints of racism on campus were echoed by other
students of color even though the university has a
majority Latino student population at around 45 percent
(whites are around 25 percent, blacks at six percent and
Asians at five percent, according to 2017 records). The
activists banded together through Decolonize ULV and made
demands for change. Through open letters published in the
student paper in the fall semester, Decolonize ULV accused
the university of a "lack of awareness to the
microaggressions students face on campus." The group
called for a strategic plan to promote diversity and
inclusion in all departments, a re-training of faculty and
staff, and a change in the "Eurocentric" and "patriarchal"
curriculum. To enforce the demands, the group said that
"cultural competency" should be tested and tied to pay
increases and tenure evaluation.

In addition, dozens of students linked to the group
participated in numerous protests—many aimed at
interrupting faculty and staff meetings—throughout the
fall and spring semesters. Administrators offered support
by inviting guest speakers to talk about social-justice
issues and requiring diversity training for faculty and
staff. But to the leaders of Decolonize ULV, these were
crumbs that failed to satisfy their demands for real
change.

The first demand was that the provost, each presidential cabinet member, all deans and the president create curricular and co-curricular strategic plans that promote diversity and inclusivity in their departments on campus. One of the core beliefs in the University’s mission statement is diversity and inclusivity. As the University has grown, so has diversity on campus. The University of La Verne is recognized as a Hispanic serving institution. Being able to create an inviting culture in and out of the classroom can bring more and more people together, and if each department promoted these values, it would go a long way in changing the culture between students and staff.

Secondly, Decolonize ULV demanded a change in the faculty and employee handbook that addresses training in diversity, inclusion, neurodiversity, mental health, gender, disabilities, sexuality, socioeconomic status, to name a few, as appropriately directed by the chief diversity and inclusivity officer. This is important. The University can talk about promoting diversity and being inclusive, but making changes to the employee handbook that addresses these topics will hold employees more accountable than they have ever been and will help curb discrimination and microaggressions toward students.

Decolonize ULV also demanded that diversity competencies are enforced and are a part of all evaluative processes and any merit pay increases. If the University was serious about address the issues raised, they would take this demand into serious consideration. Evaluations should be an important determining factor in pay increases and promotions. Evaluations can give a good idea of not only how effective a professor is at teaching curriculum, but also an indication of classroom culture and temperature.

Also, Decolonize ULV demanded a change in what it describes as a Eurocentric and patriarchal curriculum to match the diverse backgrounds of students on campus. There should be an effort on the part of the professors to introduce the work of underrepresented groups and not just focus on European history and culture while excluding a wider view of the world.

Lastly, Decolonize ULV demanded that cultural competency, as listed above, be a part of the tenure evaluation process. If a professor has been found to be culturally insensitive or discriminatory toward students, then that should be a factor in the tenure process. Becoming a tenured professor is very difficult, but there are no excuses for this type of behavior toward students. Coming to school and paying to be belittled is not acceptable. The students who are protesting now are attempting to change a culture that has existed for a long time.

Берни не на пустом месте возник. Там совершенный дегенератский пузырь надулся -- куда хуже, чем ипотека для нищебродов, подарившая нам 2008 год.
