There are potentially oil deposits in 85% of Colombia’s territory. This is known as the ‘prospective area’ and covers about 1,644,179 km2 (including 71% of the land area and a large part of Colombia’s territorial waters). 80% of resguardos (509) and 88% (310) of indigenous communities outside resguardos (ICOR) are totally or partly within the prospective area.
The regions where the presence of hydrocarbons is not possible or probable are called ‘non–prospective areas’ and represent an area of about 328,375 km2 (29% of the land area and 15% of Colombia’s total territory).
Those indigenous territories wholly located in non–prospective areas are the only ones guaranteed not to be affected by oil and gas exploration and extraction (although they may be by transport).
Only 20% (129) of resguardos and 12% (43) of ICOR are wholly within non–prospective areas.

Colombia’s Rubiales-Piriri oil field has 341 million barrels of proved reserves, the field’s operator, Canada’s Pacific Rubiales Energy Corp., said.
The Colombian government had said in July that the field could contain 500 million barrels of reserves.

The company said it hired Petrotech Engineering Ltd. to conduct an independent reserve evaluation of the Colombian field as of the end of June.

“According to the Petrotech Statement of Reserves Data, the Rubiales/Piriri field had proved reserves (P1) of 341.3 MMbbl at June 30, 2009, compared with 286.4 MMbbl at December 31, 2008; and proved plus probable reserves (P1+P2) of 397.4 MMbbl at June 30, 2009 compared with 361.5 at December 31, 2008,” Pacific Rubiales Energy said.

An additional 199.1 million barrels “may be classified as probable and possible reserves if production should go beyond May 2016 (which is the date the company is currently obligated to revert the fields back to Ecopetrol),” the company said.

Colombian state-controlled oil company Ecopetrol is Pacific Rubiales Energy’s main partner in the field.

Pacific Rubiales, which produces natural gas and heavy crude oil, has operations in Colombia and northern Peru.

The company currently produces about 34,000 barrels of oil equivalent (boe) per day at the 32 blocks in Colombia and Peru in which it has working interests.

Блок Кондор расположен в предгорье Восточных Кордильер в западной части нефтегазоносного бассейна Льянос и является одним из крупнейших геологоразведочных блоков на территории Колумбии.

Скважина Ленгупа-1 заложена в купольной части структуры Ленгупа, находящейся на территории муниципалитета Паратэбуэно в штате Кундинамарка. Проектная глубина вертикальной скважины - 2700 м, точка заложения скважины находится на высоте около 950 м над уровнем моря. Контракт на использование буровой установки по итогам тендера подписан с американской компанией Nabors International.
В 2007 году на структуре Медина блока Кондор по итогам бурения глубокой разведочной скважины было открыто месторождение нефти с промышленными запасами. В настоящее время ведется подготовка к коммерческой эксплуатации месторождения.

Компания Lukoil Overseas обнаружила геологические запасы нефти в объеме более 100 млн баррелей (15,9 млн тонн) на структуре Медина разведочного блока Кондор в Колумбии. Между тем, как отмечается в сообщении, этот проект уже начал приносить финансовую отдачу — около 4 тысяч баррелей (636 тонн) высококачественной колумбийской нефти, полученной при тестировании скважины Кондор-1, продано североамериканским потребителям. Договор по блоку Кондор, подписанный 7 апреля 2002 г, предусматривает проведение геологоразведочных работ на блоке в течение 6 лет и, в случае коммерческого открытия углеводородов, разработку месторождения в течение 22 лет.
