U.S. Navy зафрахтовало для перевозки военных грузов первое в современной истории судно, использующее в качестве дополнительного движителя воздушный змей.

The 400-foot Beluga SkySails is the world's first cargo ship to use a sky sail - a giant, computer-controlled kite that can rise 100 yards into the air and uses wind power to help propel the ship during long ocean transits... The ship operating company estimates that the sky sail can reduce fuel costs by 20 to 30 percent, or roughly $1,600 per day.

Хм, это ж где-то $3-4 млн. экономии за 10 лет... Интересно было бы еще воздушные змеи приспособить для ледоколов. А также для плавучих ракетных батарей.

А проект то немецкий. В прошлом декабре Eva Luise Köhler, wife of the Federal German President. gave the vessel her name, MV “Beluga SkySails”, during the christening ceremony at Überseebrücke in Hamburg.

ага, спасибо. пропустил. но раз вояки зафрахтавали, это серьезно. 5 октября из Ньюпорта с грузом уже ушло в Штаты...
